Things are falling into place for September 14th , and the card is beginning to look like a boxing fan’s dream. The main Event that night between Pound for Pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, is the biggest fight in recent years.

Now the main event will get a little of their shine stolen by the Co-main event that night. Golden Boy has made possible and came to terms with both Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthyse to make their fight for light welterweight supremacy a reality. They will meet in the ring September 14th at the MGM grand. Richard Schafer of Golden Boy Promotions broke the news last Thursday via a conference call. Schafer also mentioned that this fight between Garcia and Matthysse will be the most expensive undercard fight ever made, with terms not being released.

For sometime now Matthysse has been calling Danny Garcia out, saying that he wanted to fight the best fighters in that division. Lucas is also the number one contender for the WBC at junior welterweight, which happens to be one of the titles Garcia now holds.

Matthysse has been on a path of destruction stopping his last six opponents since his last loss which was highly questionable vs. Devon Alexander. Now he gets a chance at what he wants, the WBC belt and a chance to be the best fighter at 140.

Danny Garcia is the WBA, WBC and Ring Magazine champion at Junior welterweight, which makes him the number one fighter at 140 and the number one target. Danny has proven himself in his last fights, out pointing the likes of Zab Judah in his hometown Brooklyn, former world champion Eric Morales and Amir Khan.

Unfortunately this also makes him a target, as some people believe that wins over these fighters are not enough to crown him the best at 140. Morales and Judah are now past their prime and are no where near the level they once where. His KO win over Amir Khan would probably be his biggest win up to date, and many are quick criticize even that win.

Now Danny Garcia has a chance to prove to all his doubters and make himself the true undisputed champion at 140. He will now face what most think is his toughest test up to date in the form of Lucas Matthysse.

16 of Garcia’s 26 wins have been in the way of KO’s, while 30 out of Matthysse’s 32 wins have been KO’s . No one is expecting this fight to go the distance as both fighter are know for their power.

Another fight that is being talked about but is not yet finalized is between Super Welterweights Austin Trout and Erislandy Lara. It is said that the fight is being discussed and close to coming to an agreement. The fight will also take place September 14th at the MGM Grand, and would be on the Mayweather vs Canelo undercard also.

Last week Lara was quick to call out Trout and he did so on the social media tweeting: “They say you are scared , are you scared? ( to Trout)

Trout responded later that day also tweeting Lara:”please never scared of no man, especially one who ran his whole life.”

Some time last week it ESPN Deportes reported that the fight had been verbally agreed and that they where just finalizing some things before it could be signed. A week later the fight has not yet been announced or has anything else been herd.

It is rumored that the opening fight on the Showtime PPV telecast will be by a fighter from Mayweather’s stable. Super Middleweight Badou Jack is coming off a win this past Friday night, where he defeated Farah Ennis on showbox. Jack would open up the telecast fighting Mexican Jose Antonio Periban, who is coming of a controversial loss to Sakio Biko last month on the Malignaggi- Broner undercard.
