Mayweather vs Cotto is on!!!

Floyd Mayweather Jr appeared in front of the Nevada state athletic commission this morning in an attempt to get his license for a May 5th fight. After a long lecture from the commissioners they voted unanimously 5-0 in favor of Mayweather. So after a few weeks of verbal jabs being traded over Twitter and even a phone call between Mayweather and Pacquiao you would think the big fight that boxing fans around the world have been waiting for was finally secure. Guess again, the super fight imploded during the negotiation process once again, this time it appears it was over the propose $100 million dollar purse. Floyd is demanding a bigger cut of the money and Pacquiao wants a 50/50 split, but even if they would have agreed on the paycheck rumors have it that the Mayweather camp doesn’t want Pacquiao to hold any of his training camp in the Philippines and was making other ridiculous demands. It seems like this fight is more about who wins at the negotiating table rather than in the ring so for now it looks like the big fight will once again have to wait.

What we do have however is a very intriguing and exciting fight between Jr. Middleweight kingpin WBA Champion Miguel Cotto (37-2 30 KOs) and undefeated super star Floyd Mayweather Jr (42-0 26 KOs). Miguel Cotto is coming off of a very satisfying TKO victory over previous conqueror Antonio Margarito back in December. After that victory he himself was looking for a fight with the Pac-Man looking to avenge his only other professional loss but the demands from the Pacquiao camp were too much for Miguel, requiring him to fight at a catch weight below the required weight limit for the 154 pound Jr Middleweight division. Floyd Mayweather didn’t hesitate agreeing to the weight limit, after all he is challenging Miguel Cotto for his title right? Floyd stated “I want to fight him at a weight where he feels the most comfortable at” he also responded to Pacquiao questions via twitter saying “I am fighting Miguel Cotto because Miss Pac-Man is ducking me” Miguel Cotto was also active on his Twitter account almost seconds after the announcement was made he tweeted to his fans “I am back in the ring on May 5th and I will beat him” I for one am very excited about this fight, Floyd is definitely out to secure his legacy in boxing world and Miguel Cotto is ready to prove he is the best in the world, A victory over Mayweather would without a doubt secure him a rematch with Manny Pacquiao. For Floyd who is coming off a 4th round KO victory over Victor Ortiz last September, win lose or draw he still has to report to jail come June 1st and serve his 90 day sentence. Will he be celebrating the victory in his cell or wondering what he could have done differently in the ring on May 5th? Only time will tell. With this fight I am going to make an early prediction here and say that Manny Pacquiao will face undefeated Timothy Bradley who just positioned himself for a fight with Pac-Man when he recently signed with Top Rank Promotions, the same promotional company that promotes the Filipino superstar. The Mayweather vs Cotto fight will indeed take place at the 154 pound weight limit for Miguel Cotto’s WBA title May 5th in Las Vegas, NV at the MGM Grand live on HBO PPV.
