Accomplished Mexican actor Demian Bichir has been named ambassador of immigrant rights in the United States by the American Civil Liberties Union. Bichir who is likewise recognized in American film recently played the role of a Mexican immigrant in the movie “A Better Life” for which he was nominated with an Academy Award in 2011.
Bichir joins the likes of Cyndi Lauper and Harry Belefonte, his focus is the advancement of immigration reform and promoting suspension of deportations. During his speech, Demian stated: “I will represent 12 million people with a voice they don’t have. I must go to Congress and the White House… and I really must tell everyone what this community does for all of us”, according to Hollywood.com.
