Slated for a September 2013 release, Vin Diesel will be returning to the movie screens in his next blockbuster action film. But, for the first time in what seems like forever, he won’t be racing cars. Instead, he’ll be fighting for survival in what could be the best Sci-fi movie of the year!
This is the third in the Chronicles of Riddick franchise, but the story actually began in 2000 with Pitch Black. In 2004 the first Chronicles of Riddick dropped, and recieved mixed reviews. But despite it’s lackluster performance in the movie theatre, the film did surprisingly well on DVD, and (like most Sci-fi films) has developed a dedicated fanbase all geared up for the third installment.
(The second movie in the series was actually a half-hour animated film, Which is probably why you might not have heard of it.)
now, almost a decade after the first Chronicles, the series hopes to make a splash early fall. The trailer is, at it’s best, intense. Honestly, I haven’t seen Pitch Black or the first Chronicles, which is probaqbly why I felt like the trailer didn’t really give me a whole lot story-wise. But, knowing what I know about Vin Diesel (and action sci-fi movies), I can already tell that overlooking this movie just because i havent seen the pevious ones would be a mistake.
What I can tell is that Riddick has been betrayed by the other humans, on a desolate waasteland, and he has to fight off giant deadly aliens. And since almost 2 minutes of the 2 and a half minute trailer was just full on action, I’m gonna roll the dice and guess this one will be far from boring. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I think I’ve got $10 to spare come September. And of course, I’ll be back to give a proper review of the movie then.
