New York Fashion Week came to a close a few weeks ago and Paris Fashion Week is in full swing! We have seen the classic yet typical collections that we know and love from Givenchy, Chloe, Dior etc; but did you see Rick Owens?
While I am not quite sure whether I like it or hate it; I do know that I don’t love it. I don’t think Rick Owens served Avante Garde as much as I think he dished “Angry Black Woman” and that, I did not like. I did like the fact that Rick Owens thought progressively enough to go against the norms and include women of color in his Paris Spring preview; he even took it a step further by not having the traditional skinny “runway model”. The models were of all sizes, but mostly plus sized. I personally thought he could have kept the stereotypical “angry” faces and the predictable step team routine; it made it look less Avante Garde and more Stupide… Much like a Minstrel show of sorts. However, if I could hug and thank Rick Owens, I would because I feel his heart was in the right place.
