Grandfather Abuses Grandchildren with Grand Canyon hikes


45-year-old grandfather, Christopher Alan Carlson, was found guilty of child abuse Wednesday for forcing his grandsons to hike the Grand Canyon in searing August heat. Carlson was found of three of six charges of child abuse, by The Arizona jury. The three children were 8, 9 and 12 at the time, the abusive behavior was discovered by a ranger with binoculars during their Aug. 28 hike. Reportedly the ranger saw Carlson shoving the oldest boy and whipping him with a rolled-up T-shirt. Rangers fed the boys and gave them water; two had signs of heat exhaustion and dehydration, and the other after one showed symptoms of heat stroke. Carlson was convicted him on the three lesser offenses, he’s scheduled to be sentenced June 1, the possibility of a life sentence is unclear.
